What we work on · Racism and bullying
Therapy for racism, bullying and everyday microaggressions
Most of it is not a slur. It is the meeting where your idea is repeated back by someone else, the joke about your lunch, the accent imitation, the promotion that never quite arrives, your child coming home quiet again.
The exhausting part is the doubt afterwards. You replay it, you wonder if you are being sensitive, and you decide not to mention it because naming it costs more than absorbing it. That absorbing is what shows up later as poor sleep, a short fuse at home, or dread on Sunday night.

What this often looks like
- ·Replaying an interaction for days, unsure if it was really about race
- ·Shrinking your name, accent, food or clothes to be easier for others
- ·Anger that arrives late, at the wrong person, usually at home
- ·Dreading a specific colleague, teacher, manager or group
- ·Your child saying they are fine while going quiet after school
- ·Being told at home to work harder and let it go
What we actually do in sessions
- ·We take the incidents seriously first, without asking you to prove them.
- ·We separate what is yours to change from what was never about you.
- ·We work out what you actually want: an escalation, a boundary, an exit, or simply to stop carrying it alone.
- ·We practise the words for HR, a teacher, a manager or a friend who keeps joking.
- ·For parents, we plan how to talk to your child so they are believed and not just toughened up.
- ·We treat the effects too: sleep, anxiety, low mood, and the anger that leaks at home.

Common questions
Is this really something to bring to therapy?
Yes. Repeated exclusion and racial slights are a recognised source of chronic stress. You do not need one dramatic incident to qualify.
Will I be told to be less sensitive?
No. The starting assumption is that you are reading the room accurately. What we work on is what it is costing you and what you want to do about it.
Can I bring my teenager instead?
Yes. Komel works with teenagers as well as adults, and often meets the parent first to plan how to raise it at school.
Does Komel understand this from the inside?
She is an Indian psychotherapist who has lived and worked outside India and works with the diaspora daily. You will not spend the first session explaining the culture or the context.
