Postpartum therapy online: for the version of new motherhood nobody posted

Postpartum therapy is talk therapy for the months after a baby arrives: persistent low mood, anxiety that will not switch off, rage that frightens you, or the flat sense that you have disappeared into a role. Komel Kaur offers postpartum therapy online worldwide, in English, Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi. A 30-minute intro consultation is USD 35 and nothing is charged at booking. Severe symptoms, or any thought of harming yourself or the baby, need urgent local care, not an online booking.

For new mothers who are functioning on the outside and quietly not okay on the inside, including those doing the fourth trimester far from the family that was supposed to arrive.

What new mothers actually bring to sessions

  • A low mood or flatness that has lasted past the first weeks and does not lift on a good day.
  • Anxiety that will not switch off: checking breathing, replaying what could go wrong, unable to sleep when the baby sleeps.
  • Rage that arrives fast, usually at a partner, followed by shame about it.
  • Grief for the previous self, and guilt about feeling that grief.
  • A relationship that has become a logistics company, and resentment about who noticed that first.
  • Intrusive, unwanted thoughts that are frightening to say out loud. Saying them in a session is safe, and they are more common than the internet suggests.

The diaspora version of the fourth trimester

The first weeks after a baby were never designed to be done by two people alone. In much of the Indian context there is an assumed crowd: a mother or mother-in-law arrives, food appears, the new mother is fed and relieved of everything but feeding. Living abroad, that crowd is a video call, and sometimes the call brings its own pressure: commentary on the baby, the body, the feeding choices.

Therapy works with the actual situation: too little help, too much opinion, a partner doing their best inside a model they also inherited, and a mother who is simultaneously grateful and drowning. Both are allowed to be true at once.

What the work looks like

  • A proper assessment of whether what you are carrying is exhaustion, adjustment, anxiety or depression, because the response differs.
  • Practical load work: naming the invisible tasks, redistributing them, and building the sentences that ask for help without a fight.
  • Anxiety tools that work at 3am, not just in theory.
  • Couples sessions where the relationship needs the work, not just the mother.
  • Referral guidance where medication or a local psychiatrist is the right next step.

Where this practice is not the right choice

Said plainly, because this period has real emergencies.

  • Any thought of harming yourself or the baby, or hearing or seeing things others do not. That is postpartum psychosis territory and needs urgent, local, in-person care.
  • You need medication prescribed or managed. That is a psychiatrist's work; therapy sits alongside it.
  • You need a provider licensed in your own country for insurance reimbursement. Komel is UAE based.

Common questions

How do I know if this is baby blues or postpartum depression?

Baby blues peak around day three to five and ease within about two weeks. Postpartum depression is heavier, lasts longer, and can start months after the birth: persistent low mood, numbness toward the baby, sleep that does not improve when the baby sleeps, or thoughts of escape or harm. Two weeks of symptoms that are not lifting is the point to get assessed.

Is postpartum rage a real thing?

Yes, and it is under-discussed. Anger that arrives fast and feels out of proportion, often toward a partner, is a common postpartum symptom and is usually tangled with sleep deprivation, invisible workload and anxiety. It is workable in therapy, and saying it out loud in a session is safe.

Can therapy help if I am just exhausted and touched out?

Yes. Not everything after a baby is a disorder. Sessions also work on the load itself: the division of labour that silently became yours, the guilt about wanting time alone, the relationship with your own mother surfacing now that you are one.

I am an Indian mother living abroad. Does that change anything?

Often, yes. The support structure the first forty days assume, family around, food arriving, someone who has done this before, is frequently missing, and video calls with family can add pressure rather than comfort. These sessions start with that context already understood.

Can I bring the baby to sessions?

Yes. Sessions are online on Google Meet, and a baby on your lap or feeding mid-session is normal here, not an interruption. Evening and late slots exist for when the house is finally quiet.

What does it cost?

A 30-minute intro consultation is USD 35. A full 60-minute session is USD 70, or USD 49 as a new client offer. A five-session plan is USD 49 per session, paid one session at a time. Nothing is charged at the point of booking.

What if things feel unsafe?

If you are having thoughts of harming yourself or the baby, or you are hearing or seeing things others do not, that is urgent. Contact local emergency services or a crisis line now, and see the crisis page for numbers by country. Online therapy is the right support for the ordinary weight of this period, not for an emergency.
